For many, a COVID-19 diagnosis can still have a significant impact on their daily lives and well-being. While current COVID-19 treatments are effective, some are only available in a hospital setting, and they may not be an option for people with chronic medical conditions that are taking certain medications. It's important that all high-risk people with COVID-19 have treatment options that work for them.

About the Clinical Trial

We're conducting a clinical trial for high-risk adults and adolescents with COVID-19 who have limited treatment options or are unable to take current treatments. This clinical trial will determine if a potential antiviral treatment can safely and effectively help them recover without interacting with their current medications or causing unwanted side effects.

By choosing to participate, you will receive care from a team of dedicated healthcare professionals while helping to advance what could be a breakthrough treatment for people around the world. So, thank you for taking the time to learn more.

Who Can Participate?

This clinical trial may be an option if you:

  • Are an adult 18+ or an adolescent 12+
  • Have COVID-19 and developed signs or symptoms within the last 5 days
  • Have certain risk factors for severe illness or complications from COVID-19 and may not be able to take currently approved treatments. Risk factors include:
  • 65 years of age or older
  • Obesity (Body Mass Index (BMI) over 30)
  • Current smoker
  • Chronic lung disease
  • Asthma requiring daily prescribed therapy
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Renal impairment (kidney disease)
  • Sickle cell disease
  • Have a condition or take a medication that weakens your immune system
  • Have not received a COVID-19 vaccine in the last 4 months

Participants will need to meet a few other criteria to take part in this clinical trial. The study team will discuss these with you in person.

Participation Matters

Ensuring diversity within clinical trials enables us to see how potential treatments work in different types of people. We’ll be looking at factors like age, sex and ethnicity to see if the treatment is effective for all people with COVID-19. Everyone needs to be represented.

What to Expect

If this clinical trial is a good fit for you and you agree to take part, you will be enrolled for around 24 weeks, and you will have about 12 appointments in total (some appointments may be by telephone).

You will have a 1 in 2 chance (50%) of receiving the study medicine or placebo. The placebo looks just like the study medicine but does not contain any active ingredients.

You will take the study medicine or placebo orally (pill) twice a day for 5 days (10 doses total).

Whether you receive the study medicine or placebo, you may still take a standard of care medicine for COVID-19 while in the clinical trial. This means you will be cared for using the current best practices determined by your study doctor.

The study treatment and study-related procedures will be provided at no cost. You will also be compensated for completing study-related activities.
